Default How's the fishing up there in Clarion?

My youngest has taken an interest in fishing and she bought me a fishing licence for fathers day (smart girl). We go up clarion every year around this time and I was wondering is it worth taking a rod to spin in the clarion river. I know my way around the area pretty decently. To give a you general location of the water I'm talking about I'll say the river that passes McBeths cabins. I never recall seeing any fish or anyone catching anything other than a buzz.

Take the rod or leave it home?

It doesn't matter if you catch anything or not, spending time with the kids is what's important.
Take the fishing rods to provide the excuse to be with the kids.

smallmouth bass in that area. can be hard to catch anything with so many kayakers etc coming down. I'd drive upstream of Clarington.

Not a problem, we cover lots of ground when we go up there. Clarington is on our routine route for enjoying the area.

YMMV but have had good luck south of McBeths Cabin for smallmouth, however earlier in the season.
We float down to Millcreek at Clarion.
A few miles up from Clarington, just below Belltown, millstone creek dumps into the Clarion river.
Few miles up from that Spring creek dumps in at Hallton, and up from that bear creek dumps in.
Early in the season was good for some trout.
There are decent pull of spots with big rocks to sit on the whole way up.
Recommend if weedy to tap your rod in front of you as you walk. A tad snakey here and there.
Actually bank fishing may be kinda slow. Haven't seen the river level up there for awhile.
It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.
