Can someone explain..........
the policy of moving threads to the lounge?
I understand that some may choose to start their thread in the lounge,
but I'm asking about threads started elsewhere that end up being
moved to the lounge.
Is there some formal list of rules being applied?
Are these decisions 'personal choices' of moderators?
Are the threads that are being moved considered 'too divisive'
to allow them for public display?
??? ??? ???
(I suppose this question thread may be moved...)

Re: Can someone explain..........
Taking a guess based on where you posted this thread....
If you look at the page with the list of forums https://forum.pafoa.org/ it has a description of the type of threads in that go into each forum. The stated purpose of each particular forum make it easier for people to find threads related to topics they care about without having to wade through bs.
For the general forum where you posted this thread it says * General firearm-related talk that does not fit into any of the other forums.*. Since this thread has nothing to do with firearms it may get moved.
So if I were to guess, threads being moved have nothing to do with the stated purpose of the original forum they were posted in.

Re: Can someone explain..........
Personally speaking, many times there are duplicate threads that get started, one in the Lounge since that's the defacto catch-all forum, and the second (and 3rd) may be in other forums like General or National. A thread might "get moved to the Lounge" when it gets merged with another like thread that's already in progress in the Lounge.
In a case like that, I consider the following:
1) In what forum was the first post on the subject made?
2) Is the forum appropriate?
3) Which of the posts has the most responses?
4) Which forum is the most subject-appropriate?
5) Of the duplicate post titles, which is the most subject-descriptive, and which is the most clickbait? The clickbait title always loses in a thread merge I'm performing.
The answers to those questions determine the action I take. Because the Lounge has the most activity, duplicates made in other forums stand a good chance of being merged into an existing Lounge post.

Re: Can someone explain..........
Thanks for YOUR reasons ... I've noticed a number of threads that appeared to be section appropriate that were moved to the Lounge.
Since I almost never visit the Lounge, I won't follow the move, having to sort thru the myriad of threads that are of no interest.
It would seem to me that the first priority for thread placement is where the topic is relevant to a named section (and any duplicate threads merged there) - and only moved to the Lounge when there is no other section they can be relevant within.
Thanks again for your perspective.
BTW - My question is most often about this very section - so it's not irrelevant to ask HERE about those moves...

Re: Can someone explain..........
Many non-duplicate threads that start in "General" get moved, most of them to the Lounge, because they are not firearm related.

Re: Can someone explain..........
And "politics" - the topic that was once banned from existence - which caused me to resign because I wasn't willing to infract people for talking politics - a lot of the random political (non-firearm related) stuff belongs in the lounge now - seeing as that little experiment went over like a lead balloon.
Not to mention topics which may be best not viewed by the general public. Lounge threads can only be viewed by forum members and don't show up in searches, so sometimes it may be deemed better for "us" to move something to the lounge.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
