Ruger Precision Rifle 300WM
I'm looking to buy a bolt action sniper rifle for my next firearm and been looking at this one. I see them for about $1500-$1600, plus a descent scope and bipod will put it way above $2000. The rifle is about 15lbs without scope and some people complain about that. What do you think of this rifle?

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle 300WM
I think it's the best bang for the buck, with the Savage 110 close behind. I'm saving for a Ruger Precision Rifle in 338 Lapua, hoping availability increases after all this 'rona hoax plays out..

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle 300WM
your pricing estimate may be a bit low. a atlas bipod and good rings will be 500.
that being said, my kid has one in 308 and it is a pleasure too shoot. 3 holes touching at a hundred and 6" gong at 300 gets boring.

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle 300WM
Hate to pick nits but do you want a sniper rifle or a precision long range rifle? Like the left calling all modern sporting rifles that resemble the M-16/M-4 assault rifles, we need to keep the perceived negative connotations (sniper rifle, assault rifle, etc.) to a minimum.
That said, I have a RPR in .308 and it is fantastic. Definitely put money into good solid rings and a good scope set up, you won't be sorry. As my long distance shooting coach said when I was first starting out, "Buy once, Cry once". Many people get the RPR and immediately start modifying it. I worked up loads to see what would be best for my particular rifle and then started shooting. Haven't really wanted to change anything yet. I run the Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25 scope with Vortex rings and have the bubble level ring added. I'm using a UTG bipod (8") and it works find, rock steady. I am quite happy with everything.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Just picked one up in 6.5 PRC. 1250 for rifle, 750 for glass, 110 for Seekins rings, 220 for Atlas bipod, ammo 350. You can do the math. I*ll be out towards Lewistown on the 21, 22 to see how it does at 1k.

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle 300WM
The 300 WM is a fine cartridge but do you intend to shoot paper or grizzly bears? If its mostly for target and deer there are better choices than a 300WM.
Your shoulder and ears will thank me.

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle 300WM
My only knock on the rpr is that the fit and finish isn’t the greatest for a rifle in that price range. It’s a bit gritty and doesn’t scream I cost 1500 bucks. Does it shoot? Absolutely so. Some are .5 Moa rigs. The number of them in circulation attests to how well they shoot

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle 300WM
Im thinking of using the Vortex Viper scope with 20x zoom with the rifle. How tall should the 30mm rings be? I was thinking of the Burris 1 inch height fixed 30mm rings. Will that work?

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle 300WM
Some people are saying you often need to change the barrel for the RPR 300WM, is it true these barrels last shorter than say a 4150 AR barrel?

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle 300WM
If I remember correctly, 4150 just has more nickel in it. For years 4140 @28-30 RC was the standard for barrel material. I doubt you will torture that bolt action like a semi-auto enough to need a tougher steel. Anybody know what Ruger is using for steel now?
