IMO, that rifle isn't really meant for anything other than long range target shooting. Or the odd situation where you are a short walk from a fixed hunting location with a long range shot. The weight will give you a big assist on the recoil that will be welcomed. If its too heavy for your use, you're probably selecting the wrong caliber/rig.

Adding a Vortex Razor and a bipod will add ~3.5lbs to whatever it weighs OOTB. I have a ~1964 Rem 700 in 30-06 that got a new stock, Bartlein barrel, Razor scope, and a bipod. The difference in recoil for this now 14 lb rig was amazing.

A CZ 750 in 308 with the same scope and bipod is in the same weight class, and I swear it has the recoil of a 223.

Finally, just adding the same scope and bipod to a Savage 338LM gave a noticeable (and welcome lol) reduction in recoil.

Why 338 Lapua? Just wondering. 300WM shoots flatter with higher fps and cheaper ammo. I know the 338 does have more energy with the heavier bullets.

1 mile shooting steel. The flatter is subjective depending on bullet weight and fps. I have 308win, 6.5creedmore, 300wm that all shoot great out at distance and I'd love to get any of them in a RPR platform, but I do reload and the challenge and change is what keeps the hobby enjoyable. Do I "need" a 338 Lapua, No. Do I "want" a 338 Lapua, Yes, most definitely.

Took my new RPR 6.5 PRC out for its first test ride at 1k on Tuesday & Wednesday. Took just 6 rounds to get my dope for 1k and loving my new toy. I used factory Hornady 147 Match and 143 eld-x and a little disappointed in the match ammo. Ran the 147s over Crono and velocities were not match grade. 143s more more in line with stated velocity on the box in 2 different rifles. Second rifle is a Christensen Mesa and it*s another great shooting rifle.

New version of RPR in .300 PRC. Save your shoulder from the 300WM and the .300 PRC will minimize barrel wear.

I*m trying to limit components, 6.5 caliber bullets have some very good sectional density and ballistics. I now have 5 rifles with 6.5 caliber chamberings.

Instead of the Atlas bipod, I was thinking of the Magpul bipod, its about $120. Will that work?
