Default Bulk silica gel for your gun safe?

    https://dryndry.com/collections/silica-gel-beads

Has anybody bought from them before? Looking at buying a half gallon container. I'll just make my own packs. For the cost of 1 plug in silica gel unit, i can get a lot more protection.

And just as a side note, if you decide to buy silica gel, the microwave recharge method is known to not be as good as the oven. I think it overheats the moisture in the beads and then they crack.

I bought I think 2 1/2 pounds from Amazon to use in my filament cabinet. It turns to pink when it's saturated. You can then put it in the oven to dry it back out and reuse it over and over. I don't think it was very expensive.

Not color changing. Beads are not uniform in size. No thanks. I use cat litter when disposing of small amounts of paints and solvents. But even then, the stuff made to dry paint works so well and is so cheap, there is almost no point.

The dry and dry company sells on Amazon as well. I've got a vendetta against Amazon (they never issued credits on items i had proof they received so i was out the item and the money) so I'd rather by directly. Plus they accept PayPal and Amazon doesn't.

They have the crystals for dehydrating flower petals at your local arts and crafts store.

I recommend you test them when you get them.
There were issues with the color changing being too fast and people didn't like that, so the new version stopped changing color.
I bought some and dropped them in a cup of water and they never changed color, I stopped trying after a week.
Others have made the same observation in reviews.
You may have a better experience.

I think there's another chemical of some sort involved, which makes them change color. Not all silica gel is the same.

    I'm no expert.
My Eva Dry changes color, these didn't for me.
But it was a few years ago, so the current product may be ok.

They are certainly supposed to change color. I did see on their Amazon reviews that some people had issues in the microwave. I'll just use a toaster over.

I have a few plug in silica gel packs and they all change blue to pink. They take forever to recharge though.

Speaking of which, the silica gel supposedly changes color at the 50-60% saturation point. This means that even if it changes color, it can still absorb (in theory).

I figure for 22$, if it works, great. If not, that is roughly the cost of a plug in unit.
