Default Scope and mount suggestions please

I'd like to get some suggestions on a scope and mounting hardware for an M14.
I'd only be using this occasionally at the range, so competition or high end hunting glass won't be needed and I don't shoot enough to warrant it. Max range likely 300 yards.
I'd like to stay around 200-250 for everything.
    TIA

I just bought an as new Springfield scope mount for my M14 from a forum member. No glass yet. All I can tell you is that it is high to clear the receiver. Be prepared for ultra low mounts and a bit of neck stretching.

A Monte Carlo style stock would be a huge plus. At least on my gun.

Most m1a scop mounts are crap including the ones made or offered by springfield. If you cheap out on the mount it wont matter how good your scope is. As far as scopes I would check out one of primary arms offerings, they should have something decent within your price range.

    These are excellent.

IMO , the best mounts are high-quality STEEL copies of the BPT - Brookfield Precision Tool mounts. There are a few quality copies out there. But they are not cheap. https://www.sadlak.com/m1a-store

As for scopes , the M-14 is tough on scopes. I went thru a few before settling on an old steel-tube Weaver T-10. Good scope , great glass , durable and historically correct as many sniper rifles used them during Vietnam.

I've seen two types, the high so you could still use the iron sights and low that just took them out of the equation. I'm leaning towards a picatinney style high mount, but haven't decided yet.

I have high mount see through rings so I can still utilize the NM sights. Don't even need a cheek pad to use the scope.

That's a beauty for sure. My "want" list is growing. I did score a brand new Winchester hard case with both keyed and combo locks for 50 bucks yesterday, part of an estate sale.
