Default Rusty Sig Mags? how to remedy?

HAve some sig mags that started to rust. I have probably 20 other mags stored the same way/location, with no problem, so likely user error. How best to remove the rust? Reblue? steel wool to remove?

Rust on the inside, outside or both? Are they fun mags or used for carry?

If they are just some light freckles use some OOOO steel wool and some oil and scrub all of the surface rust off. OOOO steel wool will not hurt a blued finish if used within reason and if it is just scattered freckles you will have to look hard to tell where the rust was. If there are big rust pits find a piece of brass with a sharp corner and rub on the spots hard till the rust is gone. This will leave brass marks all over but they can quickly be removed with the steel wool. If the rust is deep you will have a pit where the rust was but there is nothing you can do about that.

On the outside, but have not looked inside.

Fun mags: as its a P239, I bought spares when they discontinued, so I have more. I'm guessing one or two just didn;t get the correct coating of oil. They are stored in a basement which gets a shade damp, but I keep guitars and drums in the same finished/unfinished spaces. Both sensitive to moisture. So Dessicant bags hanging in a storage area, a dehumidifier in the summer months and Little dessicant bags in the storage, range bag, etc.. trying to post pics

Copper scrub bud and RIG, coat with RIG and work with the copper scrub bud. Be sure that they are copper and not just copper plated.

Trade the SIG in on a Glock. Problem solved without using solvent.

I never had this issue but if I did I would disassemble the magazine heat it up with a heat gun and apply some Froglube. Love that stuff.

If they are only fun mags, doesn't seem to be a huge problem. As they mentioned above, some steel wool and lubricant should do the trick. Keep them coated. I never tried froglube but that may be an option. Good luck with your endeavor.

I recommend that you use bronze or brass wool and oil, NOT steel wool. I've used 0000 steel wool with oil in the past and while it removed the rust, it also lightened the blueing to a degree.
