Default Rabbit anatomy and general processing information wanted

Hi. First year with a hunting license. I know rabbits aren't in season yet. I'm trying to educate myself before they are.

Does anybody have a picture of a rabbits anatomy with regard to hunting?

I've watched several YouTube videos and know that i want to save the liver. However, in all of the videos, the camera is too far away to discern liver from other organs. I know the heart and lungs are pretty far forward of the liver.

Additionally, there is another organ on the liver that needs to be removed. Detailed pictures would be helpful or even where i could find this information in a good book.

Are any of the organs worth saving outside of the liver? If not, anything my dog would enjoy? Any cautions?

I've seen to check the liver for spots and worms. Are these common problems in wild rabbits? At what point do i not eat the meat?

    Thanks!
    -Zach

I've never saved livers, but they're generally dark in color. I suppose you could save the hearts and kidneys, maybe feed them to the dog?

Cut open the rabbit then, while holding open the rabbit, let your dog gut it. He'll love you forever and ever.

I found this documentary on the subject for you.

    It appears it's women's work.

I have not processed a Rabbit myself, but here's a link that might help:

Here's a detailed anatomy picture. Also not sure if this is going to help you though.

My pup will eat anything. I just want to make sure whatever i give her is safe for her.

Haha. Yeah. She would eat the entire thing if i let her. She is a very food motivated dog.

And definitely not looking to ruin the meat. Do they die easier than squirrels? I've hit squirrels in the head with a .22 pellet gun at well less than 25 yards and they thrash about and sometimes get up to carry on about their business.

I'll be sure to let my formerly vegan fiancee do the cleaning and processing. She eats meat again... But i don't think she'll play along... Although she was a big GoT fan.

Thank you! I'll look through the instructable tonight when I'm not at work.

I suppose. Worms are definitely parasites. Not sure about the spotting nor at what point to say the animal is too unhealthy to eat.

Rabbit season is after the first frosts so the worms get killed off. We never saved any entrails from them.

We never gave the dogs the guts. Danger of worms so I was taught.
Pick some skin off the belly, slice it open, pull all the guts out and hang them in a tree up high. Stick in the game pouch and wipe your hands on the dog.
Once you cut one open you can identify everything pretty easy if you want to save anything
