Re: Transforming a walk in closet into gun room
No, builder said it was for a security room, but wouldn*t elaborate. The rebar was randomly spaced and spanned three studs each with overhang into the adjoining bays. Looked like ladder rungs but not evenly spaced. At the time, I thought well, nobody is going to get in there because you can*t get a good enough hold on it to pull the wall down. Wrap a chain around it and you might get two studs to pull free, but not completely, so it*s not worth the effort. That*s if you could get a chain to the street to hook up to a vehicle.

Re: Transforming a walk in closet into gun room
You are correct.......I did not think about someone with a 7 1/2 inch door and a concrete door frame. But residential doors are pretty much a joke. Watch some cop shows when they do a forced entry. They might have a battering ram to make things easier but I never saw a show where they couldn't get the door open and gave up. Trying to knock an outward opening door they would probably have to break the door into pieces, not just the 1 inch back of the frame where the locks bolt is.
But even with your setup if your door was reversed and the 7 1/2 inch door was resting on all sides by the concrete wall (not just the bolt) it would be even harder to open.Last edited by Delkal; June 26th, 2020 at 05:13 PM.

I've done it. Cinder blocked off room in the house with a steel security door behind a Floor to ceiling framed piece of artwork. Heres the live security camera/ motion detector feed.

I dunno, unless for some reason you expect to be targeted by well-equipped professional burgers, some of these suggestions seem like overkill. Whatever construction minimums to deter that average street rat armed with nothing more sophisticated than a screwdriver looking to get in and get out with some quick drug money or items to pawn should suffice.
