Re: Two Queens men caught trying to slip into NYC with $6,000 in fireworks bought out
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

I would have found myself a 1990's buick station wagon and put 200 dents into it by throwing fast balls at it then dressed like this.

These sure bring back memories.

Re: Two Queens men caught trying to slip into NYC with $6,000 in fireworks bought out
When I lived in Hawaii, it was every citizen's responsibility to drive out "The Evil Spirits" on December 31st". So there was a midnight parade that cascaded down Kalakaua Ave. (Kalakaua was a Hawaiian warrior/king before the US Marines seized the islands in the 1870's) which is essentially right down the middle of Waikiki.
It usually started off with some highschool bands and such, but then many joined in, bringing their own fireworks. For reasons I don't fully understand, at the time in Hawaii, you weren't allowed to purchase fireworks that shot up in the air (probably a "This is gonna poke your eye out thing" or "It could be another secret attack by the Japanese - somewhat similar to Pearl Harbor in 1941 - and our radar is gonna be screwed up if you shoot all kinds of fireworks into the air..."
But walking down the middle of Kalakaua Ave. with exploding fireworks? Not a problem...
The most vivid memory I have is my mom (still kicking at 95 yrs), held a roll of 5,000 firecrackers under her left arm while twirling the ignited end of what was essentially going around her head like someone attempting to drop a lasso around a steer (or NASCAR driver). She had a great time (oh, did I mention she was on the Penn State's National Woman's Rifle Team while as a student there?).
The firecracker paper was more than ankle deep across a four lane road - for the better part of a mile. By the next morning, it was all cleaned up. But i sure hope the tourists at the time appreciated our efforts in driving out all the evil spirits.
NY, NJ, PA. and a bunch of other states could take a lesson...
And during my time there, as far as I know, no one was ever injured as a result of this annual spiritual event.Last edited by bamboomaster; June 26th, 2020 at 02:26 PM.

Their arrests come the same day the mayor announced a special task force will do “undercover buys” and conduct “sting operations” to catch vendors illegally selling fireworks both in the city and in other states.
So looting, burning buildings and shooting people are a-ok, but bringing fireworks in is a crime? The USA is now a banana republic. Only without the bananas....or the Republic.

Re: Two Queens men caught trying to slip into NYC with $6,000 in fireworks bought out
Yeah, but...
The way I see it going down is like this.
NY has guys sitting in the parking lot of the fireworks stores off the first PA exit on 78. They note NY plates leaving the store and radio them to NJ / NY staties.
Those plates get flagged for extra-special observation, get pulled over if doing 66 in a 65, etc. Officer finds a 'reason' he needs to search the car, finds the now-illegal fireworks. Guy probably just gets fined and a ticket.
NY / NJ gets to tout all the illegal fireworks they've 'magically' been finding. Few if any defendants are gonna get righteous enough to pay for a lawyer / real defense, just pay the fines and get on with life.
Now if they start trying to put folks in jail and/or more serious charges, then yeah, it becomes worth fighting it. But you'd have to prove the link, hope for a judge who doesn't 'find a reason' it's okay to do that. Your initial charges will be NY/NJ (so good luck on the judge) unless you now somehow open a case in PA... But does PA have jurisdiction over a NJ/NY traffic stop? Or do you make a federal case.Last edited by KCJones; June 27th, 2020 at 12:39 PM.
