Does anybody lap their one piece mounts?
Just got a wheeler mounting kit. Obviously the alignment part of the kit won't be useful with a one piece base, but does anybody lap their one piece bases?

Re: Does anybody lap their one piece mounts?
I have a foot long piece of 1 inch stainless steel tubing. I mix a little fine carbide grit into some grease, coat the rod, and give it a few passes between the rings when they are mounted to the base (tops too). After a couple minutes yow can see where it takes all of the high points out of the rings. I do this before I mount any scope. I also did a couple one piece mounts and they had high spots too.
This is not rocket science and you don't need a precision ground special lapping rod. You just want to get the major high points so the rings grip the scope better and does not mark it up. I lap till I remove ~1/3 to 1/2 of the bluing.
