Looking for AR recommendations
I have a Smith and Wesson MP 15T but want to get something lighter. I want to stay below 1500. Any recommendations?

Re: Looking for AR recommendations
Spread your wings and fly. Time to build one. Factory guns are a tough find right now. You can do it.

I agree, build it. Especially if you want light weight.
Pick and choose your parts and you can get down around 6lb pretty easy.HGW, llc ~ Title 1 & NFA sales/manufacturing ~ Transfers - Title 1 $20 - NFA $50

Re: Looking for AR recommendations
Consider starting your build with one of these once they're released...

Re: Looking for AR recommendations
If you insist on buying it already assembled, consider looking for an upper with a pencil barrel.
The bulk of an upper's weight is in the barrel, followed by choice of hand guard.
Lowes are all about the same aside from the stock. Mission First Tactical's Minimalist stock is a solid choice for a lightweight stock.
Complete upper. Complete lower. Easy peasy.
If you want it to be as light as possible though, build it using the exact parts you want.
Faxon pencil barrels aren't cheap, but they are the best value in a QUALITY pencil barrel, and are about as light as you can get in that league.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

I've had very good success with PSA builds - get a nice lower that you like, the rest is like putting legos together - pretty easy and straight forward. Inexpensive (mostly) and you pick and choose what you want.

You aren't going to shed much weight in the lower. You can change the stock. Something lighter than the factory stock will be pretty easy to find.
Then just build an upper. Slick side will weigh less. Anderson calls it a sport style or something like that. They are like 50$ on a few reputable websites.
Faxon 14.5" barrel with integral muzzle device will cut your weight some more.
Lightweight free float handguard. I think faxon also sells a carbon fiber one with functional m lok slots. Not cheap. But looks cool.
If you want to go the extra mile, you could get a lightweight bcg with either a regulator on the bcg or at the gas block.
Diy, even with the necessary vise block (and vise if you don't have it), plus the torque wrench (mine is tekton and it works great plus it is super affordable), and an armorer's wrench (which you should already own - the real avid one is great) - you'll still come out below 1500$, learn a bunch along the way, and have a light upper. Then you'll build a lower to go along with it and the cycle continues.
Best part is, all of these parts can come right to your door. No need to worry about an ffl.

Re: Looking for AR recommendations
Perhaps something like this? Pencil barrel, A2 front sight, and polymer handguards always feel lighter to me than any free floated aluminum handguard. It's not exactly cheap BUT you don't have to worry about building one if you're uncomfortable doing that or don't want to spend $100 or more on tools to assemble the upper. https://www.ballisticadvantage.com/1...ete-upper.html
I've used BA barrels on a few of my builds and they're really high quality barrels. The Faxon pencil profile is the lightest but only by a few ounces.
