Flavor of the month cartridges
I just got an email from Brownells introducing the 6mm ARC. is this going to be another cartridge that claims to be the best thing since sliced bread and then never catches on?
I know it is relatively new, but does anybody have any experience with it?
Pros and cons? Application (hunting, target shooting, etc)? Barrel life expectancy? How does it compare to the 6.5 Grendel that it is necked down from?
Brownells pitched it as a 1000 yard ar15 cartridge. But isn't that what 224 Valkyrie and 6.5 Grendel are marketed as? More to the point, while that is impressive, what percentage of shooters are going out 1000+ yards?
Is this just a niche cartridge and i should stick with my 5.56/.223?
Discuss.

6mm lost out to .243 in the 1970s for reasons unknown other than marketing decisions to responses.
I believe 6mm Creedmoor and 6.5 Creedmoor have had fans among benchresters since 2007.There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

No experience with that one, but I refuse to touch anything without a significant support system in place. I skipped the 6.5 PRC in favor of 6.5 Creedmoor for that reason, despite the PRC being the superior cartridge. Actually, I let even the Creedmoor get 10+ years of history under it belt before I got one. Unless (and sometimes even if) you reload, I don't like taking the chance on having a useless club or an expensive to shoot oddity.
That said, it could be a fine cartridge that deserves its moment. Plenty of new ones are, if you're willing to risk it.

My son is building a high power competition rifle and using 6mm BR. Sub-moa on the 600 yard line.

I'm sort of interested in this one personally. Of course it's all about maximizing the AR-15 platform. I was never really impressed with the 6.5 Grendel ballistics, this seems like a interesting compromise.

Re: Flavor of the month cartridges
How is this any different than the 6mm PPC? Both use the same 220 Russian parent case and the differences in the specs seem minor. The only difference I see is the 6MM ARC uses heavier bullets. But that is a barrel issue.
The 6mmPPC is one of the best bench rest cartridges on the planet. So why didn't it become more popular in an AR?

Here is a good explanation of how the .243 won out over the Remington 6mm, if interested:
