Default Have LTCF , But can I carry a loaded rifle?

I am still driving up and back to work, Mostly using Broad St in Philadelphia and I am wondering,
Yes I carry a side arm, BUT whats the legality of carrying a loaded rifle in the car with me?
Or in worst case scenerio, Using one to defend myself,
My wife is a hospice nurse who left work last night at about 8:30pm, I did follow her as the route again is down Broad st,
We past looters and a few small fires on the way back,
    she has off today,
But I will do the same tomorrow eve.
    Aargh,
    Wish I didnt have these questions ! ! !
    Sincerely
    Me and my Family !

Loaded long guns in a vehicle are a no-no.

Legally, only a SBR or machine gun can be carried loaded. IIRC
    I'm carrying my SBR now.

So a Keltec PLR-16 would be a legal choice and not the FN psp Carbine.

You can not carry a loaded rifle or shotgun in your car. As strange as it sounds you have a LTCFirearms and in Pa rifles and shotguns are not firearms.

You can have an unloaded rifle or shotgun in the open or right next to you but the ammo needs to be in another separate "container". Carrying a full magazine in your center console or glovebox should be OK.

11.5" AR pistol is your answer.

    Agreed ^

For the meantime, if you don't have an AR pistol or SBR (or similar platform for 'heavier' purpose than just a sidearm) I would suggest what the folks above said. Have your rifle in your trunk or whatever and have the loaded magazine in a separate container somewhere - whether back there with it, or up in your glove box. If needed, insert mag and charge rifle. A lot of folks like a rifle carrying case that has mag pouches on the outside. That keeps you legal and keeps everything in a neat package.

We assume you have a LTCF of course (duh, just read the title that says "HAVE LTCF").

Good luck and good on you for escorting your wife like that. Perhaps think of another route that could avoid the most troubled areas, but that might not be possible.

one more thing - consider the implications of exiting your vehicle and then employing lethal force. Castle doctrine applies in an occupied vehicle, but getting out to retrieve a rifle depending on the circumstances could be questionable. Just a thought to be aware of.

    Thanks for the input guys,
I have a well used PLR16 which has been very reliable,
Drove past more mayhem this afternoon,
Going around is possible, But after she works from 7am to about 8pm escorting elderly to the other side, She really does not want an hours drive home, Direct thru a section of Germantown and north on Broad is about a 15 min drive,
Please understand, I do not want to escort her, But I would not want to be selfish and wonder where she is and if she's OK, So an escort I am as we leave for work at different times in the morning, Criminals aren't up at 6:30 too often,
So the Keltec PLR-16 has about an 9" barrel and takes AR mags, Its been very reliable thus far,
The G19 should be fine though, I really hate the fact that these punks make be feel like a tad more protection would be wise.
