Local Police ride along?
Has anyone here ever done a ride along with an officer. I have been wanting to do this for a while now. How would one go about setting one up? Can you even do a ride along here in PA?

You could always go be a cameraman for COPS...( and I know everyone that just read this post just started singing the theme song in their head )

Re: Local Police ride along?
I know that PSP does not do these:
Why Don't the Pennsylvania State Police Provide "Ride-a-Longs" for the Public and the Media?
The Pennsylvania State Police policy forbidding ride alongs stems from concern over officer safety, public safety, and the safety of anyone who may be the person "riding along."
Additionally, when we respond to calls, those people that we respond to have a right to their privacy. Many incidents are high anxiety situations and people are not required to make their business public to anyone who may be riding along.
Also, with the ever-present possibility of danger, we cannot have our Troopers' attention diverted because of someone riding along with them; nor can we permit the type of civil liability that exists with ride alongs.
We do not even allow our own cadets in training to ride along with our Troopers.

Re: Local Police ride along?
I did several ride-alongs in Tampa, FL back in the '90s. Was plenty fun, especially when you pass up a former high school teacher that you disagreed with that once said "you'll end up in the back seat of a cop car someday". ....seeing me in the front seat with a cheezy grin as we turn on the lights. lol
I dont know if anyplace in PA does it now. Between insurance and lawyers, that practice has been pretty much trampled out.

Little bit of a drive, but San Diego (CA) used to do it.
Otherwise, yeah - call around.
BTW, I'm trying to get the COPS song in my head and everytime end up with that damn "Elmo's World" song instead...kids.
