Caught several other folks staring at me in traffic along the way. No police interactions, though I was honestly prepared to be stopped.

Lesson learned: a rifle on your back works way better than loud pipes or hi-viz gear if you want to be noticed on your bike in traffic!
Are you open carrying, if it is unloaded, or is it just decorative? Because it is illegal if loaded.

Not disagreeing with you...but I will add, what is the functional purpose of carrying it unloaded? If it is going to be unloaded, it may as well be cased to avoid unwanted attention. Of course, if it is attention you are looking for, dispensing with the case makes sense.

Functional purpose of carrying it unloaded was that the rifle doesn't fit in a saddle bag, so I slung it across my back. If you have any suggestions for a good rifle scabbard that can mount to a motorcycle, I'm all ears.

When I use to work near Manchester VT, there was a colorful gentleman that had a scabbard like this on his bike. I use to love watching the NJ folks eyes open really wide when they saw him.

That's a really good looking, well-proportioned cruiser, with and without the scabbard. Nice.

A mares leg would look badass with that bike.
    And it could be loaded.

    Here's another option if legal.
Get a ar pistol with brace and replace upper with a 16" upper.

Do both! Or an internally suppressed rifle.
