    Default How does this happen?

Young child brings matches to school. (we're talking elementary level) He is fooling around trying to light them and showing other kids, shares them with another boy who is also trying to light them and they're talking about burning down the school before a teacher catches them. This takes place yesterday. TODAY these kids are BACK IN SCHOOL!!! I am especially alarmed that the kid who BROUGHT them to school in the first place was allowed to return. I am really trying to make some sense of this. WTH did that kid have access to matches in the first place???

Had the same child held the match and pointed it at another student as though it were a play gun, he would be outta there.

They let kids who are lighting matches and making threats about burning down the school come back the next day?

A guy I work with, his son was suspended for three days because he said; "your so gay" to another kid who is his friend.

That's why my kids don't go to public schools.

Well, I have to tell you, I am seriously thinking about pulling her out of there. Oh, she won't be going to a private school though. We'll do the cyber charter route.

I remember my youth,I was playing with matches that I had stolen from my father.I think I was about 8 years old,Well,I went down to the near-by woods, and caught the damb forest on fire,I was not an evil boy, only a very stupid kid. This is no reflection on my up bringing,my mother was a saint.
Ignorance is bliss. My parents just never pounded into my dumb ass, bad, don't burn the forest down,it never dawned on them to make an itemized list of all the bad, stupid things, the possibilities of everything stupid in life.
They are only kids and may grow up to be doctors and lawyers and such.

Are you being serious? Suspend an elementary age child for bringing matches to school ... seriously? Would it have been better if it was a cigarette lighter instead?

This is how bans get started. Someone gets all offended and self-righteous about a normal activity (kids playing with things they aren't supposed to) and decide that matches don't belong in school and it just snowballs from there.

You of all people should be well aware of how this works.

Did the kid burn down the school? No
Was the kid, or any other kids injured/burned? No
Was the kid reprimanded? I'd bet he was

    Whats the big deal?

Wow. The big deal IMO is that he was standing there teaching other kids how to use them and talking about burning the school down. You're right though. Maybe the teacher should be reprimanded for not paying enough attention? (I have worked with large groups of children in the past so I am not some outsider who has no experience here talking out my ass. It's not impossible to be paying attention to what they are doing.)

When you say "you of all people should be well aware of how this works" are you referring to the soccer field? If so, there is a difference. Having matches out and trying to strike them while talking about burning down the school is a WORLD of difference from standing around with a HOLSTERED pistol minding my own business, not making threats of any kind. Perhaps I misunderstood what you meant by that though.
