If you like it, that's what counts. Look great.

Re: Refinishing a Mosin M44
Since I had the stuff out I decided to do the 91/30 also.
Again this particular rifle has no traceable historical value. I once had a Finn capture that a collector friend of mine was drooling over. It didn’t mean nearly as much to me as it did him so I traded him for this one plus what will probably amount to a lifetime worth of ammo for it. I want a few shades lighter than the M44 and I’m happy with how it turned out.

That looks fantastic. I've got 4 Moisins and would like to try to refinish one. How did you remove the old finish? Sand paper maybe?

Re: Refinishing a Mosin M44
That looks really nice and well done. I did something similar with the Chinese version of the rifle the t-53 a couple of years ago.

Re: Refinishing a Mosin M44
Gel paint stripper and a plastic scrapper is the best way, then some very light sanding after the stripper in the high spots.
I’ve done over a half dozen of these rifles over the years and that’s the easiest method and won’t ruin what’s beneath the layers of Russian crap or screw with the integrity of the wood.
If you want a cleaner original Russian Amber Shellac look then do a light buff with 00 steel wool and then reapply a new coat of amber shellac.Last edited by Hodgie; May 3rd, 2020 at 08:36 PM.

Nice mosins. I like citri-strip. I discovered it in the winter for striping inside. It don't stick the house out.
