S&W Model 40 Age/Value
Going through some pieces I received from my father and trying to lockdown the age and approx value of this one.
From what I have found, it looks like a S&W Model 40 Centennial similar to this one, but with a lower serial number. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/856676133
Anyone with more knowledge about these? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sorry pictures are so shitty. It wouldn't let me upload original size and the resized images are garbage.

Re: S&W Model 40 Age/Value
Nice wheel gun, From the pictures you're showing you have a Smith & Wesson Model 40 Centennial in what appears to be it's factory nickel finish.
I like the smooth stocks and the Tylor T Grip is a great addition to the gun.
The L prefix was used from 1971 to 1974 starting with L1 so yours was the 1263'rd gun likely manufactured/shipped from S&W. Without a letter(Still may be inconclusive) I believe your gun was shipped 1972/1973.(FYI: 40K Model 40's and 42's combined were manufactured during this time period and they both used the L prefix)
As for value, a mint collector piece, in the box with all the goodies would be between $700.00 and $1000.00*(Based on the current market values at the time and how bad someone wanted such an example)
On an average day I'd say your gun would sell for between $400.00 and $600.00 depending how good that nickel finish is and function*
It's a great little gun that I would love to have in my collection.
I hope this helps,

Thank you for such awesome info. Much appreciated! I have no intention of letting this go. Will pass it on to my kids eventually.

What about a Model 638-2 - NO LOCK. s/n CBH4xxx. Seems more modern. Does the no-lock increase value?
