Question for S&W people.....
I just picked up a 29-3 silhouette with the adjustable four position front sight. I was lucky enough to find an Allen key small enough to fit and was kind of tinkering around with elevation adjustments when a question cane to mind. I guess I was expecting each of the four set screws to have a positive “click“ but upon turning them notice that they’re free spinning. I know there was a manual regarding the four position sight but I’m not savvy enough to find one online.
The question I have regards some thread locker on these little screws. I’m actually hoping somebody has that manual or is thrifty enough to be able to find one online. I’m curious to see what Smith And Wesson themselves suggest. Any comments or information greatly appreciated. I snapped a few photos of it next to my 8 inch nickel 29-2 if anyone’s interested. Brian.

Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

The revolver manual doesn’t address adjustable front sights, but there is a phone number to call.
Post number 6 may shed a little info.

Re: Question for S&W people.....
I found this description: Sights / Optics: The front sight is a partridge blade on a sprung rocker with four small allen-head screws at the center numbered 1-4. Under the rocker is a dial which allows one to change the elevation setting of the sight to one of four preset positions which can each be individually adjusted using the four screws. The rear sight is a flat top, square notched leaf in a base that is micrometer-click adjustable for windage and elevation.
And this from our friends at the S&W forum:
The front sight can be adjusted for 50, 100, 150, and 200 yard metallic silhouette shooting. Hitting that ram at 200 yards the first time was amazing. Fifteen years latter, hitting 4 out of 10 rams in one match was unbelievable for me. I guess practice is cheating.
When you set the sights, set position 1 on the AFS by pressing down on the rear of the front sight and move the wheel to #1. Pick a load (and don't change), then adjust the sight to hit at 25yds. Insure when you are done the front sight is high and the rear sight is low. Move out to 50yds, set the wheel to #2, and adjust the front sight set screw with an allen wrench moving the sight down. Move to 100yds and set #3. Move to 200yds and set #4. Always use the same ammo and use the same hold on the target and after position 1 adjust the front sight only!Last edited by gghbi; April 1st, 2020 at 12:13 AM.
