To lend or not to lend a shot gun

I have two neighbors fairly down to earth, who Im pretty sure have no guns, one has kids, the other has none. Both are good people, helpfull, never a problem. When this shit storm goes down, who gets the extra shot gun? Now everyone is cool, good buddy stuff, but this can go sideways quick. One has allot on his plate (kids) the other nothing to worry about. The one with kids is home ALL day, the other is not.

Thinking ahead here, you just gave a shotgun to your neighbor with kids who NEED food, or the other one. One with kids is home all day, laid off, because of this shit, the other neighbor is working most the time, and never see.

One has nothing to lose, the other has allot to lose. That could turn ugly

You want him to defend your shit, but he could also take it.

Hard to say what people will do when times get ugly. It's almost down to the classic question; are people inherently good or bad?

Keep in touch with your neighbors, keep tabs on their well being and mental state, and let them bring up the topic of borrowing a gun. You can always say "my family member borrowed my spare problem solva" if you don't want to oblige a gun loan.

Or remove the firing pin.

I hear you. Well if you are going to arm your neighbors, then you will also be obligated to keep them on your side, which probably means sharing food and such.

one thing you have to consider is any thing you do can come back to haunt you . do you remember the sheirif that was passing out ammo during the riots in the 70s or 60s . he was charged for it in the 90s for passing out the ammo not sure how it ended but the trial was so far removed from the riot that the jury had forgot the riot .
if you lend one out give the one that was not bought through an ffl.

Removing the firing pin will do nothing but instill a false sense of security at best, and get him killed in the event that he actually needs the gun to defend humself or his family. I would never consider doing that to someone. If you do decide to help him offer some genuine help. To help make the decision offer to take each one to a range and see which one appears to be more comfortable and responsible with a gun, (of any sort), and get to know each of them in terms of what their actual views on firearms are and which one shows more responsibility. Or you could just stay neutral and let each of them live with their life's decisions. I personally would not give a neighbor a gun with the expectation that they would use it to help protect me unless it's someone I've known well for many years, and even then I'd have to think long and hard about it.
