The number of direct calls to the Districts is amazing. They think they will get faster service that way.

I remember a Lieutenant asking a few cops who were hanging out in the Operations Room, if they thought they were firefighters and responded from the station? They got the hint and rolled.

In hq one evening, a woman came to the window at the shift commander's desk, raising hell about getting a ticket on her parked car. This ticket was for a twp ordinance violation for parking facing the wrong direction. It cost $2.00

The lieutenant patiently let her wind down a bit, then said, "Ma'am, perhaps if you knew where the money goes, you would not be so bothered by it".

    Yeah? Where does it go?

'It's a collective, to make the streets safer, and the money collected goes to the widow of the unknown soldier".

Oh my God! I didn't know that! Oh, my God! I'm so sorry. Oh Geez...as she, embarrassed, headed back out the door.

We laughed so hard it hurt.

I've always known I would be the first responder to any problem I have.
The cops are called to do a report and take out the trash.
That being said, if I'm not around and my wife or family has an issue I expect the cops to be there two minutes ago.

To the fire station where they won’t be bothered by idiot supervisors.

    Drinking all my damned coffee.

And I’ve worked places where cops stayed at their station unless where called, or coming to drink my coffee.
