Re: Out of Work? What Can you Do. Want to help? What do you need done?
Not to take away from the chromebook idea, but I run a Raspberry Pi Zero in my 2M kit. It sets up a hotspot that I use my phone or ipad to VNC into. Chirp works as does it's intended purpose of running packet radio for Winlink email. The Rpi runs on a small USB power pack.

Sure. Make sure that if they're in a plastic shell that the shell can be opened via non-destructive means. That's what really pissed me off about one of those professional battery shops. I took some drill packs in to be rebuilt one time, and the packs couldn't be opened. Instead of them just stopping there, they cut them opened and then glued them shut. I didn't catch it until I had already left and used them a few weeks later.
I don't have a big inventory yet of cells, but I'm working on getting some in of the most common types.
But if what you have tacks AA Nicads, I just got some of those in.Rules are written in the stone,

Winter temp work -
The state has 4,700 on-the-road workers ready to drive plows and conduct vehicle maintenance, but there are still hundreds of job openings for plow operators, diesel mechanics and welders.
