I suppose it's time for me to answer the question. My closest guns are down the hall two rooms over and in a safe. I still can't bring myself to put guns in a nightstand even though we have no kids. Something is bound to happen. The 1911 feels the best in hand although it is probably a bit of overkill. I could back it up with an Italian 32. Easy to shoot.

My general purpose bedside gun is a 300 Blackout AR with 40 round magazines and fitted light. I have handy one of those many thousands lumens Olights for really lighting things up if I need to. I also have a PTR-91 with 20 round magazines loaded with a very special 130g SOST bullet that will go right through any vehicle. And I keep a Suomi ready to go with 71 round drums.

If I have to shoot it out from down stairs I have the Uzi ready to go with a bag of 50 magazines.

My work helmet is a Team Wendy with a Wilcox mount so at some point I need to get my own PVS 14 and a suppressor for 300 Blackout so I can go full ninja.

This is real now. No more academic discussions on the merits of double vs. single action etc. . You have half dozen guns and EVERYTHING considered, what would be that one gun that you would entrust your and your families safety to.

I have my 9mm Ruger right here in the truck with me and my wife has a .38 on her nightstand. She is very competent with it and I pity the intruder who attempts to break into the house.

Nightstands? Who needs a nightstand? IPB (Inside the Pajama Band) is how I roll. Kinda hard to roll to the right though.
