    Thanks all for the help.
You just saved the positive offset into the one memory channel you programmed. However offset is turned on in VFO mode. You can turn it off there and not effect any stored frequencies.

So my Nagoya 771 came in, hooked it up... half the time it skips over NOAA while scanning, so that's obviously not working right.

You probably want to skip over NOAA. It never stop talking, so your scan cycle will always get stuck on it. I have it set to skip on my UV5RA and just scroll to it with the arrow keys (I have them all set up in the memory slots).

I made contact on Wednesday night with a Net on a repeater about 8 miles from my house. Did a check-in, a little introduction and chit chat. One of the guys on the Net actually knew the guys that tested me in NYC. Small world, eh?

Do you need Chirp to do that? Haven't had success getting Chirp to run on my mac... will try on my folks PC when I can get a chance.

PA86 - you might have the squelch set too high.

For this in or close to Phila, Holmesburg club runs an Elmers net on Wednesdays. http://www.harcnet.org/ It's in the middle of the page.
This is designed for the newly licensed, everyone is welcome, to ask questions and get assistance.

Set at 5... same as I have always have it set. The OEM rubber duck antenna never skips it at the same level.

    Appreciate the club suggestion, btw.

Try the one in Roxborough 147.030+ tone 91.5. I don't use it, but a friend tells me Philmont is an active group.

Make sure you monitor 146.52. I’ve heard more activity recently on simplex. Don’t be afraid to call out on it as well. I heard a guy last week testing a radio and talked to him for a few minutes. I’ve talked to JasonO on it several times.

    With thanks to NF2G.com

By the way, the newest McD systems are 2500 MHz (2.5 GHz) spread-spectrum. Gotta be within a block with either an SDR or a receiver that cost 5 figures to hear that stuff.

146.52 is busy around here, and I've had conversations on those rare occasions that I'm home lately, I've talked a bunch on 52.525! Also added a digital HT, Yaesu FT70D. Now I need a cheap DMR rig...no D-Star up here...when there starts being 4 possibilities, it stops being a standard. This crap KILLED the wall-to-wall repeaters.

It is hellishly easier with software and the cord.
