Default MK IV Standard - Balance with Red Dot

Suppose you had two options of MK IV Standard w/ taper barrel - 4.75" or 6". You plan to add a Ruger pic rail up top and then a Holosun 407C. Which barrel length would give you better balance - the longer or shorter?

UPDATE: went w the 4.75" and definitive arms mount. Quite pleased! It's a laser.

A lot would depend on where you're going to mount the red dot. More forward, then I'd go with the 4.75". Back as far as possible the 6" might be better because the extra weight is over your hand more and the extra weight forward might help it balance better (IMO).

Good point. To have the Ruger factory rail not overhang the barrel, you remove the rear sight and mount it so it's flush with the end of the receiver. Or you cut the mount...

I'm thinking the rail, optic and mount will be about 4oz, so it's not terrible but still somewhat significant and about 15% of the total weight. Tough to decide without feeling both options.

Have you looked at the bull barrel versions? I have an mkII with a bull barrel, put a venom on a mount that replaces the rear sight. It's a fvcking laser shooter. hands down my favorite gun. Take a look at the VQ accurizing kits too, they're cheap enough and make it an amazing shooter.

Trying to go a bit lighter weight and I like the look of the classic tapered barrel. Good to hear yours is a tack driver!!!

UPDATE: went w the 4.75" and definitive arms mount. Quite pleased! It's a laser. Lowest, cleanest mount on the market that I could find. Way better than the 1913 rail method, albeit $40 more.
