Gardening questions/ tips thread
A part of having an emergency plan is a food source like a garden.
I am hoping that those with gardening knowledge can share their wisdom on important things they have learned over the years and answer questions that newby’s might have.
So have questions...... post them here.
Have answers to questions...... post them here.
Have tips...... post them here.

Re: Gardening questions/ tips thread
I was planning on starting a garden this year and this seems like a good week to do so.
There is a lot of wildlife where I live. We get rabbits, skunks, squirrels, groundhogs etc.
I am planning on doing a raised bed garden. I am going to line the bottom with chicken wire and build a cage to go over garden to help keep critters out.
Does this seem like a good plan for a start. What should I take into consideration?
I am planning on making something like this.

Re: Gardening questions/ tips thread
we had issues with ground hogs and what worked best for us was a fence that would flex if they tried to climb it. We also attached small bells to it. no issues since we did that. If you want to be able to grow new plants from the seeds that are produced get heirloom plants. avoid hybrids because most will bare unusable seeds.

Re: Gardening questions/ tips thread
When I was a kid, my neighbor and I used to play down at the local creek, catching crayfish and just messing around. We had a fishtrap and ended up catching some really large creek chubs. I brought a couple home and buried them with my mom's tomato plants and didn't tell her. That summer those plants just took off, better than we had ever had tomato plants before. I told her at the end of the summer about the fish. It really does work.
