If you're using the thinner (cheaper) metal shelves, cut plywood, flakeboard etc to fit over the (light weight) metal shelves.
It increases the load capacity by a LOT.
The lighter shelves have a tendence to bend in the middle.

For example. It if generally recommended you store dry food in Mylar with an oxygen absorber. You should never seal it just in plastic, as it is not air right, and eventually leads to degradation.

So if you are properly storing in sealed Mylar, the gama lid isn*t that important.
    It's good to be redundant.

Those items store for a good while, where my frozen food "stockpile" could easily be destroyed by a power outage.
May as well stock up on canned foods before they jump drastically in price.

I have more flour than we'll ever use thanks to the Covid food panic. Unfortunately, it's still in the paper bags and not packaged for long term storage, so I guess I should read up on how to store items like flour, pasta, and things like that.

I bought 2 huge bags of powdered milk for the Covid food panic. They are about at the use by date - or past it.
Anyone know if that can be resealed in something to keep it longer? (never opened - plastic bag packaging)
Spam, canned corned beef (cans bought the other day)"best if used by Feb 25 2026"!!!
Tuna in "foil packets" no refrigeration needed best by date, a Year Out!

I've impressed myself with how much canned goods I've been able to accumulate.
Rather than going broke buying a bunch of things all at once, I just make it a habit to buy at least one canned item any time I'm at the store.
Usually I try to buy one "meat" and a few veggies and now I have a very nice stash of canned chicken, and tuna, and a handful of beef.
I've been satisfied with the Great Value brand canned chicken and that's what I have the most of, but I have been buying the Keystone canned chicken and beef too occasionally. I finally tried one of the Keystone chicken and I was impressed by the quality. I have not yet tried their beef. (and their ground beef has been unavailable for many months at Walmart) The Keystone stuff has a 5 year shelf life. (currently best by 2027)

I have tons of beans, corn, potatoes, and various tomatoes now, and I've never had so many jars of pasta sauce before.

Any time I use stuff, I try to replace it with one more than I used.

I write the year (ex '25) on the front of every can that comes into the house so I can be sure I'm using the oldest stuff first.

I can think of worse things to spend money on than food.

Negative, ghostrider is a line from a movie.

    Anyway, saw these on sale.

The last one particullarly caught my attention.

I like the 5gal water jugs from home depot. Can easily store them on a rack and rotate them out. I have a pump that attaches to the top to dispense water, rather than a huge gravity feed water dispenser. Food grade IBC totes can be had on facebook marketplace pretty cheap, 300+ gallons, you can stack them as well.

Costco had the food buckets for $65 a pop, 1 month for 1 person, just ad water.

Any time I see wood out for hte trash, I grab it. Wood stove with 2 burners on the top heats hte entire house in the winter. Cord wood is great, but i'd rather have more than I need.

Home depot sells both barbed wire and razor wire, so you can set up a perimeter. Fishing line can be used for trip wire to set off audible alarms. such as a spring loaded nail going into a 12ga with no shot.

Chickens are fairly easy to keep, just add food and water, and get eggs. But everything eats chicken, so you have to protect them.

People are giving away pallets everywhere like they're useless. But they're extremely useful. You can use them to build many things. I just made a 4x4x15' 3 stage compost bin out of them. Fill it up and turn, give you good fertilizer for your gardens.
