Legal fund donations
DISCLAIMER:
Now to make this perfectly clear, I spoke to Greg about this issue in chat, and he made clear that he and Rich handle the donations for legal funds, and per danp, they are in no way related to pafoa.org.
Today, MarcS, prior to being banned again, made a post in the Mnt. Jack thread and promised a donation. The donation was made by MarcS to the paypal account. The money was then refunded with the following attached:
Dear Marc SXXXXX,
Greg Rotz (gnbrotz@embarqmail.com) has issued you a full or partial refund for
your payment.
Message from merchant: No thanks. I've made a personal contribution in this
amount, to insure that Rich isn't "costing Jack money".

Date Payment Sent: Oct. 19, 2008
Amount: $13.40 USD
Sincerely,
PayPal

I guess my question is simple, would you return money already promised to a third party, without contacting the third party. I realize that Greg made a matching donation, but it would seem that it still takes the donation away from Mnt. Jack without his knowledge and or input.
Any thoughts?No signature required.

Re: Legal fund donations
Marc is free to make any donation directly to Jack if he wishes. It's been made clear that Rich and I will exercise full discretion over these funds. If folks are not comfortable with that, then they shouldn't donate. The only promise made is that unused donations will go to a future individual in need of similar assistance, and that we will account for all monies.
If information were to surface about a particular (hypothetical) beneficiary that indicated things were not as originally believed, payouts could conceivably stop, regardless of the amount held. Donors agree that we will exercise our own discretion, and that's exactly what we do.
I do not dispute receiving or returning the donation, and I stand by my decision.Last edited by gnbrotz; October 19th, 2008 at 07:47 PM. Reason: formatting

Re: Legal fund donations
In the case of marcs donation, the donation was returned because he was using it as a way to retaliate against me. More specifically, Marcs only donated so he could then tell me to "suck it".
Sorry, marcs, we won't be playing those childish games.
Greg has replaced marcs donation with his own funds, in the same amount, and returned marcs's funds so he can use them to harass someone else.Last edited by Pa. Patriot; October 19th, 2008 at 07:52 PM.

Re: Legal fund donations
I'm not sure what the full story here is, but as long as jack got the money he was promised I see no problem.
I tank you Rich and Greg for your efforts, and truthfulness

Re: Legal fund donations
And I can understand your feelings being hurt by being told to "suck it", in fact it lead to some name calling in the ban message, but my issue is that was your perception of why the donation occurred. MarcS, who i am no fan of, may have been also doing it to give money to Jacks legal fund, and on the way, an intermediate party, a collection agency if you will, turned the money down, because the intermediate party had issues with it. I think it should be Mnt. Jacks decision on who he will and will not except money from.

Re: Legal fund donations
I haven't been around much, but I have been lurking and reading up. I just wanted to take a moment and thank Greg for all the hard work he is, and has been, doing. Thank you Greg. Oh, by the way, I think you made the right decision. From what I see, this is a very tight knit group, and although geographically widely dispersed, very quick to come together for a good cause.
While I am here, I'd like to thank everyone involved in setting up the Utah CCW benefit for SheFearsNothing. Very well run and for a great cause.
