Default My Uncle's New Deer Stand

Here is what we finished making yesterday. My uncle(73years old) had been using a 40'ish year old wooden tree stand which was 20ft up a tree. But it had blown down in a windstorm last year. He was going to try to rebuild up in that tree again, but my youngest uncle and I talked him into just building a deer stand much closer to the ground.

This took us about 1.5 months to build, only working 4-5 hours each Saturday. We used some of the old windows from our farmhouse that we had replaced with modern units. Turned them on their sides and built new tracks so they slide open(one does of each window). Then hung an old storm door from the house as well.

All the lumber and roofing we had laying around. I think we had about $30 in nails/screws and for a new door striker. ..then about $30 in beer. It will fit two hunters easily, possibly three.

Sorry about the vertical hold - was wearing gloves.

It's a good thing hunting isn't an occupation in PA then.

We probably needed a permit from the township as well, but we didn't care about that either.

Nice job, guys! I couldn't even get my nephews to help me move, and I'm older than your uncle.

I know a few folks who might argue that. Work is something they do to allow them to hunt, which is their true vocation.
