QuikClot Sport Silver
Anyone know if there are any retail stores in the Pittsburgh area that sell QuikClot Sport Silver?

Re: QuikClot Sport Silver
what do you plan on using it for?
It is an interesting product...it works through an exothermic reaction with components of blood and has been shown, under certian curcumstances to cause burns to the patinet.Last edited by emsjeep; October 17th, 2008 at 12:31 AM.

Not sure what you are planning on using it for (beyond the obvious trauma treatment potential), but here are a couple of threads from the Zombie Squad forum about QuikClot and other hemostatic agents:

QuikClot Sport and Celox are getting a lot of marketing, especially as a "first-aid" product. So far, my own research and listening to some qualified people seem to indicate that it should be used as a last ditch effort only, on par with a tourniquet.--RedKnightt--

also, as it is a pellet and causes clotting you run the risk, in a large vessel injury of having one of the pellets travel somewhere it shouldn't or the resultant clot traveling somewhere and causing all sorts of problems, hence, last ditch effort. It is not in EMS protocols that I have seen.

Just looking for something to stop bleeding from (very) minor cuts and contusions. Sometimes you get those little "bleeders" that don't respond well to direct pressure.
From what I gather, the "sport silver" comes pre-packaged on little sponges and "a little dab will do you".

Hmm, I've always just kept the qwikstop styptic powder like dog groomers use in my bugout bags It also comes in the sticks commonly used for shaving cuts. Stings like hell on bigger cuts but it has always worked for me.

Re: QuikClot Sport Silver
Well as of NOV 1 2008 it IS in ALS/BLS protocols in PA.
I got/still have one of the original samples of quickclot back when it first came out and yes there was a large rate of "burns" associated with its use though through research they have changed the formula and now have minimal residual effects.
Tony, what I believe your looking for would be Dermabond.
I have personally used it when I've cut my hand and other places and it burns like shit for a few seconds but works wonderfully! The problem with Dermabond is you can't just go out and buy it, I've had the luxuary of some industry friends helping me out.
What may be of help though it band-aid has a "liquid bandage" which is 2-Octyl Cyanoacrylate with paraben which when you look up is the same as the Dermabond. This has been recommended by more than 1 ED doc for a cheep alternative to the Dermabond.
Here is a link to the Band-aid Liquid bandage Scroll down.

I hope this helps you some Tony and anyone else who had questions about this topic. Any further questions I can answer feel free to give it a shot. The "clotting" agents are for large scale bleeding and would be over kill for what you are referring to though not a bad idea for a range bag. With proper training of course.
