Re: Commie Caliber AR15 Pistol Build
I didn't take any pics of the Areo Precision ATLAS S-One handguard by itself.
I took a pic of the parts that lock it onto the barrel nut so I'd remember which way they go. (note the "lock/unlock" pictogram)
You do have to time the proprietary barrel nut for the gas tube, but that's a small price to pay for such a CLEAN and smooth design.
Where most budget handguards have some nuts and bolts on a clamp under the handguard, the ATLAS has this ingenious turnbuckle system to lock it to the barrel nut, and the area around it is shaped to remove any protrusions commonly found on more "simple" handguards.
Here's a quick vid that shows the install in very good detail.

Re: Commie Caliber AR15 Pistol Build
A few pics of the complete upper with ATLAS S-One handguard installed.
It's impossible to tell from the photos, but that "wedge" that locks the handguard on, is absolutely flush - I was blown away by just how well fitted the entire handguard is - as soon as you slip it over the barrel and back onto the upper, you can tell that you aren't dealing with "budget quality" - it all fits together perfectly. Note the area where anti rotation tabs are commonly found - it extends the whole way down, "wrapping" around the upper giving it a really sleek look.
There's a tiny gap where the rail meets the upper, but that's my fault. When I installed it the first time, it was tight. When I put it back on after doing the gas tube, I let it move forward a smidge by accident as I tightened it down. I'll correct it later.
As seen here, it's on a different pistol lower for test firing, but aside from the type of brace, the finished lower will be set up the same way.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Commie Caliber AR15 Pistol Build
Post some photos of the completed build when it's done. I still have a stripped lower in my safe from last month that I haven't touched. I just don't have it in the budget right now to build another rifle since I also need nearly an equivalent of a mortgage payment in ammunition. Will you be bringing this to the group shoot?

Re: Commie Caliber AR15 Pistol Build
Yes, the plan is to finish the lower before the shoot.
I had the upper at the last shoot and paired it with the lower from my 5.56 pistol to try it out.
With THAT lower, I was getting random light primer strikes - likely because it has a Patriot Ordnance Factory 4.5 lb drop in trigger in it.
I got a Wolff extra power hammer spring to install in this lower with a basic mil spec trigger. (until I can afford a LaRue Tactical trigger)
I suspect that will do the trick.

Re: Commie Caliber AR15 Pistol Build
I'm in the middle of installing the lower parts kit.
Kitchen counter "work bench" - best working height and lighting.
Yes, I put a stopper in the sink in case of flying parts!
Mag catch and bolt catch are in - no roll pin punch required - Robogrip pliers work great to squeeze the pin in flush.
FRONT PIVOT PIN DONE on FIRST ATTEMPT using Emptymag's patented utility knife method!
No detents flew across the room so no need for the spare detents I picked up a few years ago! Ha!
I deserve a cookie.

Re: Commie Caliber AR15 Pistol Build
OK, here's the finished build. (for now)
Lighting wasn't the best, but these will do until I can get some better pics.
About all that's left to do is add a hand stop, a sling, and a red dot.
I'm actually still debating using a red dot, or fixed sights in place of the flip up BUIS.
UTG has a nice fixed set that would look good and not break the bank.
