Get a MBR now. Just in case you can't get one in the future.

Are you talking semi auto sporting rifle (read: AR or AK) or are you talking hunting/sniper rifle? Personally, I'd get a decent AK for around $600...but that's just my opinion.

i was thinking of an AK 47 but wasn't too sure. ive seen some for around $400 and some ar's for under $700. everyone is rushing to buy them right now but i don't think it'd be hard to get one until at the earliest a yr after obama is elected. jmho. but i'm definitely thinking an ak

Look at getting an Encore. They're only single shot, but you can get rifle and shotgun barrels in any size/caliber you want.

what he said, OR a mossber 500 and still have money to pick up a couple AR lowers for a future build and then you have the lowers if there is a ban.

Gunsomke has lowers for less than a hundred dollars...

Time for the better educated to throw me a lesson or two. I have the opportunity to do a build with another member but have absolutely no idea what is involved, looking to do an AR. I see a post quoting 580. Is that for a project that is complete and ready to fire?
Two reasons I want to do a build. Price of course is one. More importantly is I want to know how it operates and how to maintain it. Out of the box rifle won't allow me to know anything other than how to load it. I want to know intimately what I have.
Next pay period I'll be purchasing a DVD from Brownell's on AR builds so I have a better idea going into this but the AR world is confusing to the neophyte like myself. So many choices. All I know at this point is I want a basic rifle that will allow for upgrades as my knowledge increases and I figure out what suits my needs. Thanks in advance.
