    WHOOF!
I saw that coming on the 527 comment, lots of folks dont know they even make one in that caliber.

    CZ527 = mauser action = military derivative

all in agreement on the x39 as a sufficient amount of caliber for deer, as a legion of hillbillies in West VA can tell ya, they take them all season long with the SKS.

I know some o dem hillbillies:-)

A buddy of mine takes caribou in AK with a 7.62x39 AK semi...its legal, and he knocks them right down with it...the caribou is significantly larger than a whitetail.

if i get out deer hunting this season, its with this, 7.62x39 Enfield by Australian Internatonal Arms....that takes AK mags.
    Shame, its no longer imported.

OMG, it's got one of them evil FLASH HIDERS.

    m10a2 =enfield action = military derivative.

i should sell it, and buy a hunting rifle

Funny, I started reading the post and when I got the "crap" about illegal ammo and tracers and such, I had to do an extensive search (well, OK, it took 3 seconds) to see what all the fuss was about as I am not familiar with the CZ 527 carbine. This is what I found.
    http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...icial%26sa%3DG

Designed to be lightweight (just under six pounds) and perfect for the brush, the CZ 527 carbine has been reintroduced in the economical 7.62x39 caliber. Featuring the same short action as the rest of CZ 527 line, it uses a typical Mauser style turnbolt with a claw extractor and fixed ejector. The detachable magazine holds five rounds, and the gun uses a single set trigger. Great for hunting in close quarters, the barrel tapes out at 18 1/2 inches (overall length is 37.4 inches). Suggested retail: $588

My guess is that The Rifleman saw 7.62x39 and read it as AK-47 "machine-gun" (I could be wrong)

I don't really understand the anti-military rifle thinking myself. As a young man I hunted whitetail with my father using a 7mm Mauser that was certainly NOT created for hunting deer and yet there's a fairly nice 8 point on the wall back home that went down without the need to throw a grenade or stick it with a bayonet to finish it off!

Can't speak for anyone else, buy I can accept The Rifleman's apology for his misunderstanding, (if offered) but I still have a bit of a problem with the bias against hunters who use "other-than-deer" rifles.
This comes from one who has been out there in the PA woods hunting, and not some assault rifle "nut."
(No offense to you nuts out there - I'll join your club one of these days!)

    JayBell,

    OMG! That
    7.62x39 Enfield is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
Yes, you should SELL IT to me!
I don't remember seeing one of those before. Reminds me of the French MAS.
That's an interesting combination of military and hunting "looks." (and aren't LOOKS ALONE what separates most of the firearms we own?)

CRAP. Now I want one of those. Damn you and your tasty gun porn!

Emptymag, I use an M-1917 .30-06 Enfield, a nice .303 No4 Mk1, a nice old Swede 6.5x55mm and a beautiful M-39 as well. All of which are military rifles and sporterized, not by me, but I use them to hunt deer. I agree with you 200%

If I ever get a chance to go back home, I'll use my M-1 Garand and my M-1 Carbine too.

on the x39 Enfield, apparently they were first imported by tristar importers, then something went wrong, and they imported something like 26 of those rifles...from what the distrib said, they got them all.
Sabre Defense was supposed to take over, but i havent seen anything new for ages.
My FFL remembered i wanted one, and ordered it when he saw it.
    nice surprise!

the other models were 308s, took m14 mags, and they had field to sniper and match grade with everything form teak to new guinea mahogany stocks, and one that ws matte hard chromes

    its a teak wood stock
    free floated barrel
    chrome lined bore and flashhider
takes standard AK47 magazines, the 10rd ones come with it, but it takes the 20s, 30s and 40s.
    wont fit a drum tho:-)
some mags need fitting, different countries MFG differences i guess.
    flip aperature rear sight
AR style front sight, elevation adjustable
came witha buffalo hide 1907 style sling, I replaced it with an Australian Enfield web sling
came with a scope mount, case, and 2 mags
    parkerized finish, steel buttplate

was kinda pricey, about $500 out the door, but its a sweet rifle....and not many folks have them

snappy recoil, surprisingly, you dont notice x39 in the AK, at least i dont, but this has a tiny shoulder slap.

and yes, i love the gun porn:-)

I think I was reading on another forum (possibly saiga-12) that too many of the parts where made in vietnam and not Australia. Maybe I missed a meeting but I didn't understand why.

that being said they are nice looking rifles, the other post commented on how heavy the rifle was with the stock, true? not so true?
