Started a .50 caliber website. Trying to get it going.
I understand that there is a small audience for BMG shooting here, but I have to begin to get the word out.
I've created, based on a lack of .50 BMG infomation on the web, a website dedicated to BMG shooting.
The site is www.bmgrifles.com
It is in its very infancy an there is hardly any content at this point, but I'm hoping to make the site flourish because of its narrow focus, but all shooters are welcome.
The site has, of course, a message forum, it also has a wiki site, much like Wikipedia, which would allow for user edited information with regards to shooting big bore rifles.
The site also has a photo gallery. If nothing else, if you register, you can host photos in your own gallery.
I need to get the word out, so thanks for reading.

Reef, the most popular message board around for the 50 is:
http://www.biggerhammer.net/barrett/wwwboard/
Fifty Caliber Shooting Association has a site:
http://www.fcsa.org/
good luck with your site, but this has been done a LOT, and the Biggerhammer board and FCSA get all the traffic"Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH

Re: Started a .50 caliber website. Trying to get it going.
I've had that discussion before with others.
FCSA message boards require you to be a member of the FCSA. I don't.
Biggerhammer is a threaded board, it isn't easy to find information there. I've been using that site for a few years. While established, it doesn't seem like it is a well maintained board. If you go to different pages of the site, they haven't been updated in 5 years or more. If nothing else, I'm trying to get a more modern board established.
Unfortunately, old habits die hard and I don't know if I'd be able to attract that crowd regardless of features I may be able to offer now, or in the future.

It's extremely difficult to start a forum unless you know people that'll use it ahead of time. You should look into advertisements (google it, they got good stuff) if you really really want it to take off.

Re: Started a .50 caliber website. Trying to get it going.
yeah, thats the problem over at bggerhammer, they are sorta cliqueish...
and FCSA requires membership to keep it honest.
Andy, the owner of biggerhammer.net got a new job and doesn't have the time to adm in it, his brother does, and poorly at that.
due to that, the attendance has fallen off.
that, and some asshat over ther was stealing everything somebody put up and posting it in some MSN group ...that dropped folks off too.
good luck with it."Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH
