Palin abused power... ?
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/...ion/index.html
Looks like the "bi-partisan" investigation found she abused her power in firing someone she is legally allowed to fireThe first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: Palin abused power... ?
No, the abuse of power comes from trying to get the TROOPER fired. You can't use official power to further a personal agenda. Nor can you allow your unelected spouse to use elected powers to further your agenda.
So there goes the whole maverick thing, heh.

Yeah, the whole thing is stupid. The guy shouldn't have had the job and anyone keeping him in that position should be fired. It's good to know that if there are people that stupid under her administration, she will do what it takes to get rid of them or hold people accountable.

Re: Palin abused power... ?
Did either of you look at the report or just the news coverage of it?
Page 8 Finding number 2
I find that, although Walt Monegan's refusal to fire trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as Commissioner of Public Saftey. In spite of that, Governor Palin's firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.
An important note of distinction is that Monegan was not fired, he was reassigned, and he resigned rather than accept the reassignment.
The governor offered Monegan a different job, as executive director of the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. He turned it down.Of every one hundred men in battle, ten should not even be there. Re: Palin abused power... ?
No one is disputing she had the authority to fire him.
What she COULDN'T do was pressure him to fire her ex-brother in law, and her husband couldn't use her office to make threats to him.
THAT'S what violated state ethics laws. And THAT'S why she's no maverick.

Re: Palin abused power... ?
It wasn't about stupid. He went to Washington DC to solicit federal funding for budget items Palin vetoed. Insubordination. Check the Alaska media coverage of the event as it happened, then see how after around two weeks he suddenly thought it was an improper firing after talking with his friend Senator French. The same Senator French who spoke of this investigation as being an October Surprise on ABC news.
Also see page 78 of the report which makes recommendations for action by the legislature. It specifically recommends changes to several laws of the State of Alaska (which should have been the only scope of an investigation conducted by the legislature)
and the Discussion section on page 80 which talks about the relaxing one of the laws to allow for updates to be provided to citizens who file complaints against a peace officer. The current law does not allow any updates, leaving the complainant to wonder if the complaint is being investigated at all. Note the recurring theme of the conversations between Todd Palin and Monegan et al was that he could not believe that Wooten was still a trooper.
There is much more in the report that vindicates the Palins than claims they did anything illegal or unethical but you wouldn't know that by reading the media accounts of how something found to be a lawful firing was somehow illegal.Of every one hundred men in battle, ten should not even be there. Re: Palin abused power... ?
So all of the quotes from Monegan where he says he was never asked to fire Wooten mean nothing?
read the interaction between Branchflower and Monegan it is almost comical...
Monegan thought Todd Palin needed to vent about wooten in their first meeting.
Then Branchflower asks if Monegan has developed "police radar" of a "sixth sense" and hs says he thinks he did and then changes his impression of the initial meeting.Of every one hundred men in battle, ten should not even be there.
