Nikon ProStaff ?
What do you think, junk or OK. Closer to Simmons or Leupold ?.

Re: Nikon ProStaff ?
Definitely a good value in my experience. Way better than Simmons.

Re: Nikon ProStaff ?
In my opinion one of the "best but cheaper" scopes you can get.
My daughter's Savage in .243 has one on it, I like it a lot myself, very good scope and no problems with it at all.
I have seen them going for $150-$200 in stores, BUT do some searches online, I have seen some great deals out there on these scopes. Check out which reticle you like better also, I like the Nikoplex, but the BDC is very popular.

SWFA link: http://www.swfa.com/
Both of these sites have good deals and I have ordered stuff from both before with no problems with orders or service.
I would add that for a comparable (price wise) the Weaver K series scopes are pretty good also.Last edited by 762xIan; October 10th, 2008 at 06:55 PM.

Re: Nikon ProStaff ?
I have one of these on my Marlin XL-7 and I think its great. It's very clear and at the price you cannot beat it. If you are looking at spending close to $150 for a scope, I would definitely pick one of these up. You will not be disappointed.

Re: Nikon ProStaff ?
I put Nikon scopes on my last two rifles and I have no complaints.
My varmint rifle has a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14X and I've got a Marlin 1895M with a 3-9X Omega on it. The Omega has taken the recoil of about 100 rounds of full power .450 Marlin and it's still good to go.

Re: Nikon ProStaff ?
I bought one at the Wal-Mart in Montoursville,$127 and put it on a Stevens M-200 .308. So far so good sighted in easily and today shot at the 300 yard range at the Tiadaghton Sportsman range, 3 shots into about 4 inches with Federal 150gr power-shok. A little luck there, at least with me shooting. I guessed elevetion at about 10 inches and 2 of the shots were in the 4 inch bull, 3rd shot was just to left of the bull.

Re: Nikon ProStaff ?
Nikon is deff good stuff. When i used to sell cameras, i saw a video from on of their reps on their glass cutting techinques ect... and if they even cut the glass wrong or not to spec by any extent the entire cut was thrown away instead of trying to fix it. They deff are Top as far as Japanese Glass goes...the Navy used Nikon Optics also. Now Nikon is no Carl Ziess or Leica or Savaorski(sp) oe Stiener, but they are damn good

Re: Nikon ProStaff ?
I put Nikons on almost everything I have. I have never had a problem with them. They are very clear and as far as hunting goes I don't believe you need to go much higher than Nikon. The price is great and the quality is awesome IMHO. -BB

Re: Nikon ProStaff ?
I have 2 Nikon Pro Staff's and one Leupold Riffleman all in 2x-7x which are similar in price and I have to give the edge to Nikon.
They just seem to be a bit more clear and bright and a couple of bucks cheaper.
FWIW one of the Nikon's has been mounted on a inline 50cal. that I've been using for 3 years now. That gun thumps pretty good and the scope does not shift. Then again the Leupold Riffleman is mounted on a PTR91 (.308) which bangs them out pretty good too and has remained stable. Please feel free to visit a forum that I moderate:
