    Default Buying a rifle online?

    Hey guys,

I'm a little fuzzy on my transfer laws regarding rifles. If I buy a rifle online from a dealer or an individual, and they insist that they ship it to an FFL, do I have to fill out the paperwork and pay the transfer fee?

Can someone from another state ship a rifle directly to my home and not to an FFL?

Pretty sure anything but a FTF face to face transfer among PA residents requires shipment / receipt through a FFL. Firearms cannot be shipped to you directly. They have to be shipped to an FFL. I guarantee you anything out of state has to go to an FFL.

    The rest I'm not 100%.
But fairly certain an FFL is required unless it is a face to face between PA residents on a long gun ONLY.

Thanks for the info. I'm AR shopping, so hopefully I can find one here in PA within driving distance

If the seller and buyer are not residents of the same state the long gun must be shipped to an FFL in the buyers state for transfer. (Fed law)

If you are both residents of the same state, fed law is silent on any shipping/ffl requirements for long guns. State laws will vary. In Pa., there is no state restriction on intra-state shipping/private sale of long guns other than you can not have knowledge that the recipient is prohibited, etc.

So as a Pa. resident, you can receive long gun sent directly to your residence if the seller is a Pa. resident too.

All inter-state sales must go to an FFL in buyers state

Could get a C&R permit but then the firearms need to be at least 50 years old I believe.

Now, if I buy a rifle from an online dealer and they ship it to my FFL, do I pay for a transfer like I do on a handgun, or just go pick it up?

Your local dealer will charge you for the transfer.

I bought my Barrett online 7 years ago. Had a big-assed box sent to my local dealer, paid my $35 and walked out with it.

Your FFL will require the shipping FFL's number Licsense etc...then you will fill out the forms to buy the firearm pay his fee (your ffl) and then be on your way....

hope I got it right. good luck
