Renewal Lead Time
My Montco issued LTCF expires Dec 2019. I will be renewing for the first time in Philly. Any of you all with any recommendations as to how soon to begin the renewal application process? I have read this: http://forum.pafoa.org/showthread.php?t=314438
thanks in advance,

If you moved to Philly jurisdiction why not start now?

Re: Renewal Lead Time
You may want to take a look at the more recent threads.
Philly is now issuing approvals and denials within the state mandated 45 days. The average seems to be within 3-4 weeks.

Re: Renewal Lead Time
I am far from an expert on the subject, but I recall reading more than once on PAFOA about how the only way to only way to correct a mistake, replace a lost/stolen card, update address, etc was revoke and reissue the LTCF. Some folks have stated how other states have negative thoughts and opinions on revoked licenses when you apply for out of state permits. You'll have to explain it to people who don't know and understand the PA LTCF process.
Your current permit is still valid for another year. If it were me, I'd apply around 60 days before expiration, knowing they are issuing within the state mandated time frame. Philly is enough of a pain regarding LTCFs. Do you really want to have to explain to a Philly cop about how you know they're slow in doing their job, so you want to get a head start? You're might get some pushback and be told to come back closer to the expiration date. If they do take it and process the renewal, you'd be losing out on the 1 year of LTCF validity that you've already paid MONTCO for, and they may have to revoke your old one in the system to issue the new one.Last edited by PHLJJS; December 19th, 2018 at 08:07 PM.

Re: Renewal Lead Time
Thank you, PHLJJS, for that information. I didn't know about that part of the process as to 'early renewal'. And you are correct, since I have about a year left on the LTCF I now have, no point in pressing the matter. When I applied for and after months finally got my MA Unrestricted non-resident permit, I remember having to explain to the interviewer why it was that my MONTCO address on my permit was different from my current PHL address, and had at least initially a puzzled look on his face when I said "because that's the way it's done in PA."
So thanks for the head's up..
