Did you know you can buy a new 1911 at a gun store?

Did you know some people collect original military firearms?

Re: CMP 1911’s
Been seeing more and more pics on the CMP forum and other sites of 1911 pistols that were received by customers. They look pretty darn nice.

Re: CMP 1911’s
Cosmetics can often have little to do with mechanical condition.
I have a shooting / collecting acquaintance in OH near Port Huron who is a North Store regular and a South Store volunteer, and he routinely sends new-to-him M1 Rifles out to be reparked. If he is successful in obtaining a CMP 1911, I have no doubt within weeks of receipt it will look factory-new.
Not everyone is so anal-retentive, but most folks who make it through the CMP selection lottery will brag uo their 1911s. Human nature. To those who want one and are successful, congratulations - I am sincerely happy for you getting what you seek.

Re: CMP 1911’s
Most certainly people will show off the nicer examples but overall condition aside, reports are highlighting tight slide to frame fit, good bore condition, and high mechanical quality. Combine that with their history and yes, buyers of these 1911s are rightfully happy. I'm not a buyer by the way, but I think my suspicions are being confirmed re: value for the cost.

Re: CMP 1911’s
These pistols were all rebuilt and stored and checked during storage. My understanding is that these were part of our strategic war reserve and were the best condition while the others got melted down at Anniston in the 1990's. I'm guessing as the M9 is retired in the coming years the worst ones will be destroyed and a quantity of the best ones will be kept in case we ever have to spin up for a big war.

I didn't play either. I've already got a few , including an all original near mint Remington Rand that came from the DCM in the sixties.
