Gotta bug for a new gun
I've had my Colt 1911 Commander for quite some time now. I am not crazy about its accuracy and on top of that I always wanted a blued gun. I still want a 1911 though. Been looking at the Remington R1. Seems fairly priced, blued(I think) and looks pretty good. Suggestions? I don't want to keep two guns though. I hate selling or going the consignment route. Do gun shops do "trade in?"

Re: Gotta bug for a new gun
I’m happy with my my colt competition 1911 and they go for around $825 new. It’s has some good features like trigger guard undercut, fiber optic sights and match grade barrel. If I’d bought again I might’ve waited for the series 70 model to release and maybe bought in 9mm to make shooting it more affordable
Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

I won’t buy anything from Remington at this point.

I do believe that gun shops take trade-ins. Remember though, they have to sell it then and make a couple bucks so you won't get the most out of it.

1st - yes many gun shops will take your gun as a down payment, but be prepared to not really get what it's worth because they have to make money on it
2nd - selling a 1911, or almost any firearm at this point in time would be counter productive. clean it, go heavy on the light oil and store it in the safe.. it will only go up in value.
This I have heard over and over again. I liked the feel of the R1 but heard very little good about it. Other than top end 1911's I was pointed to Colt, Rock Island Arsenal (RIA), Springfield, Kimber (not in that order)

Park that 1911 and join the H&K cult, you won't be sorry.

Re: Gotta bug for a new gun
If you must sell, sell it privately (list it here in the classifieds).

Re: Gotta bug for a new gun
Selling guns ain't easy. I listed a PPK here a few years ago at a very attractive price. Nothing. Forget online sites. Don't want the hassle. Had to eventually put it on consignment. It sold but it was not a pleasant experience. Not to mention that it took months. Basically, we are stuck with our guns unless you are willing to practically give them away.

Re: Gotta bug for a new gun
I would think selling a Colt 1911 Commander would be easier to move than a PPK...
