Board controls
This may sound like a weird question, but this just seems strange to me. When I log on to the site fom home, it takes forever for the pages to load. I am using DSL, but they load as if I where on dial up. Now when I am at work, wich also has Dsl the pages load faster. I only have the slow load with this site, and no other when I am home. So my question is are there some controls I need to change to have the board load faster? I know this sounds kind of retarded, but you never know with computers, and I cant think of any other reason.

Re: Board controls
Actually this site loads very slow for me when I am at work. In my case it is not my internet connection or PAFOA's internet connection it's the COGENT network being really really slow in between.
I'm not sure if that's the case on your end though.
If you are comfortable using the command line on your computer open it up and type:
tracert www.pafoa.org
And paste the results back here. If you have no idea what I am talking about then just ignore me.
Not sure what else I can do to help you on that one though.Dan P, Founder & President, Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association

Re: Board controls
Get cable internet. Mine is so fast the forums load a split of a second before I actually click on the link.

Re: Board controls
Yes Danp I have no idea what you just said. I suppose I will just deal with the slowness. Hey it sure beats a 3 day wait period! LOL

Re: Board controls
PAFOA's website is located at one the premier hosting facilities in the USA, ServerCentral Network. They have physical links to most major Internet service providers, usually 10gigE. A complete list can be seen at ServerCentral's FixedOrbit Page. Consider each of those links is a MINIMUM of 2GBps, you can quickly see the overall capacity of ServerCentral, and realize any speed issues are not caused by any bottlenecks at the hosting ISP.
As Dan mentioned, unless your ISP is directly connected to ServerCentral's network (ie, is on that fixedorbit list), then your connection must traverse third party networks in order to complete your requests. Sometimes these third party networks suck bigtime, and that will drastically impact performance. Which third party network you traverse is determined largely by your ISP's upstream providers preference.
One way to see your connection path is to use the tool traceroute. It was created to help troubleshoot network problems such as this.Last edited by doug; March 1st, 2007 at 06:18 PM.

Re: Board controls
Pretty sure it was just supposed to indicate where the hang up is at based on the time reported back or a timeout.
You'd right click in the box after it complted and select all, then press CTRL+C to copy it all.
Then make a new post here and CTRL+V to paste the text from the command line into the post.
My trace was going well until everything past 15 timed out. =(
Site works fine for me though.
