Victim Fatally Shoots 1 Suspect in Overnight Home Invasion

HOUSTON -- A victim of an overnight northwest Harris County home invasion shot and killed one of the suspects in an attempt to protect himself and his girlfriend, police said.

Police said the girlfriend and owner of the home in the 1900 block of Wycliff alerted her boyfriend when she saw two or three young men at the front door.

The boyfriend grabbed a weapon and placed it behind his back as the men began to knock on the front door, police said. However, the men suddenly pushed their way through the door with their weapons drawn.

Police said a scuffle unfolded between the boyfriend and suspects when the boyfriend opened fire at the suspects, police said. One of the suspects was killed, and the other escaped, possibly with a third suspect who was waiting outside.

Police said they believe the suspects' motive was robbery, and the men never fired their weapons.

Neither one of the victims was hurt.

I just noticed this happened in Texas. This guy should be fine from a legal standpoint, since you can use deadly force to protect property there.

I wonder if this would have left the Victim free of charges in PA. I mean three guys bust in the front door with weapons, and my beautiful girlfriend is standing beside me.... I would fire down on all of them till they stopped charging.

If someone busted down my door or forced it open and had weapons, there is no way I am going to wait and find out if they just want grama's silver.... If I had to serve time I would rather know that my children and wife were not harmed.

I took the NRA's Personal Protection in the home class the other week and it is my understanding that you may be charged in PA for shooting someone in your home, however, self-defense is a defense so you shouldn't be convicted. This is all providing the DA presses charges.

In PA you shouldn't be charged for shooting home invaders, armed or not.
