Asked Not to Carry Next Week
Two weekends ago my girlfriends parents were near her college with their camper club. I was in town and we spent the weekend hanging out there having laughs with the other camper club members. I was CC with a button down shirt, but not buttoned. Well, last night my girlfriend asked me how I thought about not carrying next weekend when her parents came to visit. I was puzzled because she had never cared about it before, OC, CC, or otherwise. Here her dad doesn't want me to carry. One of the guys at their camper club saw my firearm, one way or another, and had asked her dad "what it was about." Apparently he has this thing about what people think of him, or something... my girlfriend couldn't explain it. I told her I didn't really like that idea, and she acknowledged that she can't make me do anything and she doesn't have a problem with.
I guess this guy that saw it thought it was funny I would carry a firearm at a camp in the woods. The way I see it, I-80 is 2-3 miles from the campsite. Any police chase "could" come off the interstate and someone drive down that road where the campsite is. It happened once where a guy killed this girl in MD, fled MD, and once PSP caught up to him, he got off at the Clarion exit, went into town, into a residential area, wrecked the car, broke into a house, and held PSP at bay until he shot himself. Also, I had stopped at a gas station nearby that has been robbed on a few occasions.
Sorry for the ranting, but I think it's an unreasonale request, just because of what someone might think of him, or what someone might think of me and associate him the same. I'm 25, all thorought my teenage years I cared too much what people thought of me. Now I could give two shits. We're only here once and have more important things to worry about."Unus ut caput capitis"

Maybe you could carry small of the back or in an ankle holster. I don't want to make people uncomfortable, but I don't want to be unarmed, either. This is what works for me. Good luck.

How does something that YOU do reflect on this gentleman? You may wish to inform him that you carry a firearm not only to protect yourself, should the need arise, but HIS DAUGHTER, as well.

Carry a S&W 340PD in the front pocket. The GF will just think you are VERY happy to see her. )Every person is created equal and is entitled to an opinion, but not all opinions are created equal.

Re: Asked Not to Carry Next Week
i would just carry and not say anything. a few weeks ago i went to my uncles 35th wedding anniversary. my mom and cousin made a huge deal about me carrying there. saying it is a peaceful event, just family and friends, you might scare people and that it was at a church. i simply replied that it wouldn't be the first time something bad happened at a church. that was the end of conversation. i ccd and no one said anything.

If there is one place I would carry it would be in the woods. Never know what your going to find going though the wilderness. Deer, bears, people, etc. Most of the time they avoid you but sometimes the animals won't.

It doesn't make alot of sense because he's from Mckean county, pretty rural up there. He told me about a bad hunting trip when he was a kid and he never went hunting again. That said, he just bought a Taurus 24/7 9mm to keep at home. So I don't know.
Just thought of something... if he cares about what others think, maybe I should wear my kilt. hahahahaLast edited by clarion44; September 27th, 2008 at 04:43 AM. Reason: addition thought
