jc higgins model 583 20g
Anyone still have one of these? It was a sears model bolt action shotgun. Its my understanding that it was recalled and at one time sears was paying $160 for the bolt. Apparently the lock screw for the bolt can come lose and create the possibility of smacking yourself in the head while cycling the arm.
Now Ive never fired this gun cause when i acquired it i did research and found out about the bolt issue and the recall. At the time i read that the bolt could come out during fire risking serious injury. But apon further this investigation this evening, its my understanding that the gun is safe as long as this screw is in tact. The screw on mine appears brand new and overall the gun is in nice shape. Id love to take this old broad out for a spin.
Can anyone confirm that this screw is really the issue? No gun is worth blowing off my face. It aint that pretty, but it aint that bad either.

I've seen the same thing about the screw. It was something about the screw being to short to hold right. The write up said to check the screw to make sure it fit tight, to use Lock-Tight on the screw and to check the screw every 4 or 5 shots.
