LOL....I was hoping all of the "your .44 loaded to max will kill a deer just as dead as a .454" guys were going to come out of the woodwork and keep me from spending some money. Maybe even the youtube links showing a .44 destroying a 16 pound bowling ball in the same number of shots as a .454.

I always wanted to shoot a .454 and I met with a group member to try his. The thing was a beast really fun. My first round made my wedding ring actually cut my firing hand pinky during recoil and we were firing at 50 yards so the second round I focused more on the front sight than holding tight. You can see it kind of gets away from me but then you hear him say “dead center”

Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

I got an Alaskan in 454.....with the 240gr@1900fps its not bad to shoot. With the 300gr its not so nice. I still think .480 ruger is worse.

I had an Alaskan in .454. Loved the thing, but traded it off when funds were tight. It's pretty likely that I'll add one back to the cabinet again someday.

My problem is I did shoot one and now I want to purchase one. This usually happens...Here is a screen shot shooting one handed.

I have a redhawk alaskan and super redhawk in .454. It is a hand full.

.45 lc +P has about the same ballistics as a .44 mag. Easy to handle.

I picked up a used Rossi puma in .454 a while back. They are no longer made. You will pay $$ for one. Custom made .454 lever will run at least 3K.

If you want pistol and lever in the same caliber, the lack of .454 lever is something to consider.

But the 300g hardcast out of a long barrel is one badass pig round.

I've replaced all my .44's except for one with the .454 Casull. I like this cartridge better than my 500 S&W.

I have a .45 lc Blackhawk. With a hot 300 grain hard cast FN (at 1300 fps) I would have no problems shooting any whitetail in America with it. And the .454 will make the deer deaderer.

You will have to start reloading if you have one though. Its no fun spending $2-4 dollars a shot and you don't have the flexibility. I cast my own bullets with the Lee 300 grain flatpoint. It has the biggest metplat you have ever seen and it hits like a sledgehammer. With a little care you can equal any buffalo bore load an 1/10 the price.

I've got a Taurus Raging Bull with a 6" barrel and Taurus Raging Judge 3" that I usually shoot 45LC +P in and they're rather enjoyable to shoot. 454 is a handful but manageable, I'm good for about 12 consecutive rounds and then I'm done.

The Raging Bull has a Burris Fastfire 3 and I'm planning on using it for whitetail this fall.
