In Supica's S&W Catalog it looks like it was made in 1980.

80's is what I come up with (without having access to my other books). The 15-4 shows that its a "newer" model. The lower the -# the older it is. IIRC they started that designation (the Model # followed by a number) in late 50's early 60's.

FWIW, the Model 15 was called the Combat Masterpiece, and a lot of people think it was one of S&W's best K frame revolvers.
I have a 15-6, or had till my wife shot it at tha range and promptly told me it war now her gun.

I still get to clean it on occasion.

    They are great revolvers.

Mark, the dealer did mention the name combat masterpiece, yes they are very well made guns and desrve to be called masterpieces, i also have another Smith a 4 inch model 66 that i bought brand new in 1996 but somehow the model 15 feels a lot more comfortable in my handand points better than the model 66 even though they are both K frames, maybe its just the grips.

This weekend i am picking up a old Colt police positive made in the fifties, beautiful gun , cant wait to get it.

I have a Mod.15 dated back to 1958. It still outshoots any of my other handguns in accuracy.
