    Default Kill the Bill

They have added student loans, car loans and credit card debt to the bailout package. click the picture above to follow the link to Michelle Malkin.

Quotable: “‘Just because God created the world in seven days doesn’t mean we have to pass this bill in seven days,’ said Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas.”

This comes from Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat:

“Like my colleagues, my phones have been ringing off the hook. The sentiment from Ohioans about this proposal is universally negative.”

The amazing thing (was on fox news last night and Jim Quinn this morning) was that there was a proposal/bill that was put up about a year and a half to two years ago that said that fannie/freddie were in trouble because of the types of mortgages they were playing with and it needed to be dealt with.

Every republican voted yes to the proposal.
Every democrat voted no, killing the proposal because they have majority.

So, Pelosi, this problem rests squarely with the republican party?

    I think not.

Indiana Representative Mike Pence has the best comment on the bailout:

"I must tell you, there are those in the public debate who have
said that we must act now. The last time I heard that, I was on a
    used-car lot,"
said Rep. Mike Pence, R-Indiana. "The truth is,
every time somebody tells you that you've got to do the deal right
now, it usually means they're going to get the better part of the
    deal."

S.109 was put out in 2005 and it rolled to S.1100, where it has been sitting for 2 years. As far as I know, that one has never made it to the floor because the Dems were blocking it. That's the one sponsored by Hagel and co-sponsored by Dole, Sununu, and McCain. Which one was voted on? I don't know about that one.

The silence of the Republicans is shameful. None will speak up. If this was a Republican problem the drumbeat from the media for their heads would be deafening. Rush and Sean can't do it all, THE GOP needs to shout from the rooftops and show the proof.

Many are speaking out against it, but the media is not covering it in the same manner they are covering the democrats calling for more oversight...

What a great line. That's just a gem. I guess the sooner "we" act on this, the more bloated pork, sweet deals, and Jabba the Hut fat for the chosen elite can be omnibused in.

I would rather they use the money to wipe out the student loans of every American instead of the housing market or car loans. At leas student loans are an investment in education. I can't see any situation where a person borrowed more than they should have for an education. Hell I wonder how much the economy would change if the money we pay in student loans could be used to invest or purchase. I know another $800/month would be well invested if I suddenly was able to not pay my student loans.

Then again I don't know how people can default on student loans. Hell if you can only pay $20/month they will work with you. You have to work hard to default on them.

Have you ever seen that vid on Youtube where the kid spend $90,000 on college, getting a degree in music as a tuba player. Now he's pissed that he can't get a job to pay his loans.

I think the country would be better served to pull welfare money and help with loans of engineers, doctors, etc.

Never heard that story before. Where the hell did he go to school for $90K? I wouldn't limit it to engineers or doctors or anything like that. I have a marketing degree. I recruit pediatric physicians for a hospital that serves an inner city communtiy. If I don't do my job well it will impact the community. Is my degree less valuable than the doctors I recruit? What about the social workers? How about the lady who works as a unit secratary because her marketing degree didn't do her anygood? Sure there will be idiots who wasted their money on dumb education, but the vast majority of people who had to take loans for education deserve the assistance and would make a more possitive impact on the economy than people who have made stupid decisions. I'm not saying I want to be bailed out, but if they are looking for something to piss money away on to help the economy I think student loans would be a better idea than shitty mortgages.
