Default AR-15 bolt hold open issue

I noticed the last two times I shot CMP that on the last shot or when loading one by one that my bolt hold open isn't properly working.

The weird thing is....sometimes it works fine (with the same mag). I don't have any feeding issues when I have the mag filled with multiple rounds

The issues Im guessing it could be:

    1. The gun is still under 500 rounds down the bore, maybe the recoil spring is still a bit stiff.

    2. Not getting enough gas pressure to fully push the bolt carrier back (but how am I chambering rounds?)

    3. Mag spring is not stiff enough/has enough pressure to push the bolt release up into place.

Of course it could be other issues, but that's all I could thing of off the top of my head...ideas?

Yeah Im pretty sure it is as when I pull the charging handle manually while there's an empty mag in it locks back. I guess another thing is the machine screw that came with the ace stock looked a little long to me, Im gonna pull the buffer out when I get home and see if there are marks on it from the screw.

What ammo are you using? Any gas leaks?

Don't notice any(dont really know how/where to look), happens using wolf .223 and wolf mil classic soft point, hornady match, federal XM193x 5.56 and winchester 5.56

so everything I've run through it basically.

While you're at it, check your gas key to make sure she's tight.

I shot his AR this past weekend and just recalled that the bolt hold open felt funny to me (when I tried to set it manually). I forgot to mention that and to look into it for him (to busy helping sighting it in at the time).

Was this a kit gun? One extra wind...either way... on the mag release can make a big difference in how the mags seat. And....on several kits I've had to hone out the bolt release so the roll pin doesn't drag/hang up.

It's weird because I don't have issue setting it manually but I will take your word for it (you know more than I do)

I'll check the gas key, last I checked it was tight and staked, but that was when I built it.

It was the "donate a part" AR, so I've got some stuff to check once I'm home at least.
