Is this where you can post about the presidental canidates?
I know I support McCain (not all too happy with him, but I see him as the lesser of two evils). All else aside, I know Obama fans probably wont care or listen to me, but I believe we need "change" and both will bring change, but Obama is NOT clear of what all he will change. I am a 27 year old 82nd Airborne vetran, and I KNOW Obama has supported:
Ban on handguns
Ban on the sell or transfer of ALL semi-auto firearms
Ban on right to carry permits
Ban on firearms kept at home
Whatever your views are on firearms - fine. But let me say this:
criminals will always have them, ban or no ban. the people the ban affects are the PEACEFUL people who obey the laws! I believe in the right to bear arms - not only it is the core of our freedom, but think about this... A country launches a massive land troop attack against the USA. Right now our troops are spread thin, and not as many as we should have in our states, BUT regardless - can you imagine how militarily difficult it would be for an invading force to deal with MOST houses with weapons, slowly killing off the troops before they could even get inland?? Not only is it our constitunal right, our freedom, but also a form of foreign invasion protection! I LIKE Obama as a person, just not a president based on his descisions. And ask yourself this: regardless of where our troops are, who would the terrorists want as president? Obama, or a POW? I am sure they would pick Obama, and WE should pick whoever they dont want... Thank you all for listening to my opinion - anyone is more then welcome to share their opinion with me.

I do think McCain is becoming more than the lesser of 2 evils. His choice of Palin shows he's tired of D. C. Insiders and he genuinely seems angered with the ME first mentality of the Congress.

Re: Is this where you can post about the presidental canidates?
I also thought this interesting:
Proposed changes in taxes after 2008 General election:
CAPITAL GAINS TAX
MCCAIN
0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does not
propose any change in existing home sales income tax.
OBAMA
28% on profit from ALL home sales
How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you
will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement
and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement
community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes.
This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the
income from their homes as part of their retirement income.
DIVIDEND TAX
MCCAIN 15% (no change)
OBAMA 39.6%
How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock
market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement
accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be
paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes
president. The experts predict that ''higher tax rates on dividends and
capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to
cut the deficit.''
INCOME TAX
MCCAIN (no changes)
Single making 30K - tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 125K - tax $31,250
OBAMA (reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts)
Single making 30K - tax $8,400
Single making 50K - tax $14,000
Single making 75K - tax $23,250
Married making 60K - tax $16,800
Married making 75K - tax $21,000
Married making 125K - tax $38,750
Under Obama, your taxes will more than double!
How does this affect you? No explanation needed. This is pretty straight
forward.
INHERITANCE TAX
MCCAIN 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)
OBAMA Restore the inheritance tax
How does this affect you? Many families have lost businesses, farms,
ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations
because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their
assets to loved ones will only lose them to these taxes.
NEW TAXES BEING PROPOSED BY OBAMA
New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square
feet.
New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already)
New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water,
electricity)
New taxes on retirement accounts, and last but not least....
New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same
level of medical care as other third-world countries!

I don't. You don't get picked for VP unless you can be counted on to be 100% loyal. And if a VP goes against the President they're history.
Lots of people go to Washington hoping to throw a monkey wrench in the machine and without fail they almost all become cogs. And anybody who becomes President (at least nowadays) has long ago made their peace with the machine."When law becomes despotic, morals are relaxed, and vice versa."-- Honore de Balzac, The Wild Ass's Skin...huh, huh..Balzac...Wild Ass...huh, huh

Re: Is this where you can post about the presidental canidates?
The first part is sort of funny to me. I heard the "Left" saying Palin wasn't properly vetted. That was the mantra for a while. If she wasn't properly vetted how can she be counted as 100% loyal? I think the VP can be counted on to be a stabilizing force if they are not part of the establishment. She has a history of bucking the establishment. Most notably when she resigned from the Committee on Ethics and then held a press conference to name names.
The second part of your post I fear is true. I wish it weren't and I would like the machine to be demolished and replaced with the limited government this country is ment to have.

Re: Is this where you can post about the presidental canidates?
Why's it funny? I mean, yeah, I'm on "the left" in the most general sense, but I'm a libertarian socialist with strong minarchist and anarchist tendencies...it's not like I have anything in common with the Liberal establishment talking heads you see on TV or even on blogs. Hell, I agree with the Libertarian Party on more issues than I do with the Democrats. I could give a fuck less on whether or not Palin was "properly vetted"
There is one, and only one reason I would even consider casting a vote for Obama and that's that I'm a solid union man and Obama will fuck organized labor a bit less than McCain-- which was made all too obvious when McCain attacked unions twice in his acceptance speech. But other than that, a pox on both their houses."When law becomes despotic, morals are relaxed, and vice versa."-- Honore de Balzac, The Wild Ass's Skin...huh, huh..Balzac...Wild Ass...huh, huh
